Yoga with a lift

Forget your yoga mat on the floor: with Aerial Yoga, you aim higher. In a large, soft hammock, you perform familiar yoga poses, but floating above the ground. The fabric supports you, challenges you, and lets you use gravity to your advantage.

At the USC, Aerial Yoga is the perfect mix of effort and relaxation. Because you are suspended, pressure is taken off your spine, creating a wonderfully free feeling in your back. At the same time, your core has to work hard to stay balanced. It is playful, soothing, and secretly a very good workout.

What do you need?

Discover Aerial Yoga

For the Back Reliever

Do you often suffer from a stiff back or neck from studying? By hanging upside down (inversion), you take the pressure off your vertebrae and create space in your body. A relief for your back!

For the Yogi

Have you been doing yoga for a while, but get stuck in certain poses? The hammock helps you get deeper into a stretch or to practice challenging poses (like the handstand) safely without pressure on your wrists.

For the Beginner

Don't be intimidated by the hammocks. Aerial Yoga is very accessible. The fabric carries your weight, making some poses actually easier than on the ground.

All about Aerial Yoga

Will I get motion sickness?

That can happen in the beginning, because your vestibular system has to get used to swinging and hanging upside down. We build it up slowly. Tip: don't eat a heavy meal right before class, but make sure you have eaten something.

Why do I need to wear specific clothing?

We ask you to wear a shirt with sleeves (no tank tops) and long pants or leggings. This is more hygienic and prevents the fabric from cutting into your skin. Zippers and jewellery are strictly forbidden as they make holes in the hammocks.

Is it hard?

It is less strength-intensive than Aerial Acrobatics, but you definitely use your muscles. The intensity is medium: you might sweat less than with spinning, but you will certainly feel your muscles the next day.
