North American Indians once used this game to settle disputes. Now Lacrosse is one of the fastest-growing student sports in the Netherlands. It is an explosive mix of hockey, basketball, and American football. With a stick (crosse), you catch, throw, and shoot the ball across the field at dizzying speeds.
At the USC, you play Lacrosse through the student association L.L.V. Leicrosse. The sport is spectacular to watch and even more fun to play. For men, it is a full-contact sport (think helmets and body protectors), for women, it is more tactical and non-contact.
Two women's teams train in Leiden. Women's lacrosse is a technical and tactical game (non-contact) where speed and ball skills are central. You play with 12 players on the field.
The men's team trains in The Hague. Men's lacrosse is physical (contact) and fast. You wear protection and play with 10 men. If you like action and physical play, this is your sport.
Never heard of it? That applies to most beginners! Because it is relatively new in the Netherlands, anyone can join and learn the game.
